The third edition of this important work provides a protocol for flexographic reproduction. It
presents definitions and specifications which have been developed to benefit consumer goods
producers, designers, prepress providers, and material suppliers, as well as printers. This edition includes
expanded coverage of digital platemaking, color management, expanded color gamut ink sets,
process inks, and more. Includes a CD-ROM containing the control targets needed to properly monitor a
press run. Like previous editions, this project incorporates flexographic printing of various elements of
the book.
From the Preface: “The intention of FIRST is to provide all participants in the flexographic
reproduction process with a common set of guidelines, tutorials and data that can be used as
communication and production tools...to create a common set of specifications and communication protocols for
the industry. This platform should establish common communication and identify the responsibility of
the provider(s)...FIRST is a set of specifications, not standards. When adhered to, the specifications
are meant to produce a predictable consistent result...”
Target Audience: Everyone involved in flexographic reproduction, including customers,
suppliers, management, prepress personnel, and press operators.
