The use of SPC continues to grow in both acceptance and prevalence in many varied
manufacturing fields. The intention of this book is to teach SPC and its application to injection molding and
extrusion processes in an integrated fashion. Many SPC training programs are taught by people that are
very familiar with statistics but know little about process technology. However, successful
implementation of SPC techniques requires an understanding not only of SPC, but of process know-how as well.
SPC: Statistical Process Control in Injection Molding and
Extrusion, therefore, aims to teach not only
the principles of SPC but also basic injection molding and extrusion process technology. While it is
firmly anchored in sophisticated technology and formal statistics, it remains thoroughly practical and
readable.
From the Preface: “...One important SPC topic that was added to this book is the concept method
of precontrol. This method is an alternative to the classical SPC method developed by Shewhart.
Another important addition is a discussion on the Shainen methodology to design of experiments and
statistical analysis...”
Target Audience: All quality personnel, process and manufacturing engineers, industrial
technologists, and any other reader interested in SPC and or/injection molding or extrusion.
