This second volume of the Handbook of Physical Testing of Paper focuses
on physical paper testing in the laboratory and on-line, highlighting assays for
paper interactions with light, moisture, electricity and heat; liquid and gas
penetration; microscopy analysis; and paper surface properties. It describes laboratory
testing devices and step-by-step procedures, with helpful information on equipping
the paper and board testing laboratory, and on interlaboratory reference systems.
This edition of the two volume set contains 30 chapters, one third of which
are entirely new. The other 20 chapters have all undergone extensive revision
and expansion.
From the Preface: “We have tried to assemble here as many of the modern
aspects of properties testing in the paper and paperboard field as possible. One
of our objectives is to enable those concerned with planning, specifying, and
evaluating the physical and mechanical testing of these materials to take advantage
of the many advances and improvements that have taken place in recent years. We
also feel that it is important and useful to codify the excellent pioneering work
that has provided the essential base for these advances, which has been included
to the maximum extent possible...”
Target Audience: Paper scientists, engineers, quality assurance practitioners,
and technologists; paper and surface physicists; materials, fiber, environmental,
forestry, chemical, and applied scientists and engineers; and upper-level undergraduate
and graduate students in these disciplines.
