This collection of papers focuses on surface active agents and their applications,
which include a number of commercially important technology sectors: coatings,
detergents, water treatment, and petroleum recovery.
From the Foreword: “...The purpose of the [ACS Symposium] series is to
publish timely, comprehensive books developed from ACS sponsored symposia based
on current scientific research. Occasionally, books are developed from symposia
sponsored by other organizations when the topic is of keen interest to the chemistry
audience...”
From the Preface: “Associative polymers in aqueous media represent an
area of significant industrial importance. This maturing technology is discussed
in this text. In the first section, five chapters discuss block copolymers and
dendrimers...The second section of this book, surfactant-modified, water soluble
polymers, updates information provided in earlier volumes...A high percentage
of the participants in the first symposium organized in 1984 were industrial.
That has certainly changed during the past 15 years. An attempt is being made
to reverse this trend in the last symposium to be organized in Chicago in 2001,
on Water-Borne Coatings...”
Target Audience: Polymer chemists and technologists, researchers, and graduate
students who are concerned with a variety of fields related to the polymers in
aqueous solution.
