This volume consists of three sections. The first presents an explanation of the functionality of
cetyl alcohol; it is a most comprehensive study of this essential ingredient in the cosmetic and
pharmaceutical industries. The second is a broad review of acidbase interactions in various materials,
including small molecules, proteins, and polyelectrolytes. The third part describes the combined
radiochemical and electrochemical methods in the evaluation of the properties of solids in contact with
solutions. Each section is separately referenced and contains appropriate appendices.
From the Preface: “...As with previous works in this series, Volume 16 contains contributions on
three diverse topics of interest to readers in both industry and academia, with extensive literature
citations, including the most recent publications on the relevant subjects...”
Target Audience: Surface and colloid scientists and technologists in industry and academia.
Brief Table of Contents:
Physical Chemistry of Cetyl Alcohol: Occurrence and Function of Liquid Crystals in O/W Creams
Ionization Processes and Proton Binding in Polyprotic Systems: Small Molecules, Proteins,
Interfaces, and Polyelectrolytes
Combined Application of Radiochemical and Electrochemical Methods for the Investigation of
Solid/Liquid Interfaces
