This volume examines the technologies relevant to packaging closures and sealing systems,
featuring chapters contributed by leading professionals in the packaging industry. To date, this is the only
book dedicated specifically to closures and seals. It is organized according to the various types of
packaging metal, glass, plastic, and composite containers and contains chapters on general design
requirements, push-on closures, and flexible packaging. The book closes with a discussion of
child-resistance, tamper evidence, and openability.
From the Preface: “Consumer attitudes to domestic packaging are predominantly focused on
issues relating either to getting into the packaging and/or getting the product
out of the packaging. Packaging openings (or, in packaging industry speak, packaging closures) are therefore critical in making
or breaking a product...[T]he chapters have been written in such a way that they can readily be
understood even by those with limited knowledge of the specialist area being discussed. Care has been
taken to sufficiently explain the relevant technologies and to keep packaging jargon to a minimum (or,
at least, to explain it to the reader)...”
Target Audience: Packaging technologists and designers; specifiers and purchasers of
packaging products.
