The Plastics Technician's Toolbox -
Extrusion represents the collaborative effort of 54 industry
experts, drawn from an array of leading extrusion companies. This comprehensive training tool includes
volumes of printed material, as well as a CD-ROM which features automatic calculations of drag
and pressure flow; torque to break a screw; melt density; flow through tubes, slits, and other shapes;
sheet and film roll length, and a weight calculator.
The printed material is organized into six volumes: The first introduces fundamental skills and
presents an overview of polymer science; the second covers machine operations; the third is devoted to
a glossary of terms; the fourth discusses single- and twin-screw extruders; the fifth describes
multi-screw extruders, continuous mixers, and kneaders; and the sixth covers the various extrusion
processes, including compounding; blown, cast, and oriented film and sheet; foamed sheets; profiles;
pipes; extrusion blow molding; and recycling/reclaiming operations.
The CD-ROM also includes a complete, searchable version of the
Extrusion Solutions book (now out of print), including all extrusion hints, shop tools, book and software reviews; all Consultant
Corner articles since 1974; and a directory of extrusion consultants. Add to this a units conversion
program which includes custom conversion of viscosity units, as well as a listing of all extrusion papers
presented at ANTEC conferences from 1956 - 2003. Very highly recommended.
Target Audience: Technicians, engineers, plant managers, operators, product development
specialists, and maintenance personnel in every extrusion plant on earth; also a valuable resource for
engineering students interested in plastics extrusion.
