This volume presents an essential guide to the science and technology related to plasma, and
its practical applications in the textile industry. The first half of the book includes a background on
the physics and chemistry of plasmas; an overview of diagnostic techniques related to plasmas;
three chapters on cold plasma and corona treatments of textiles, including a chapter on
atmospheric-pressure treating; and a discussion of nano-scale plasma treatment. The second half concentrates
on applications of plasma technology. The references listed after every chapter comprise a solid
bibliography for this subject.
From the Introduction: “...In the textile field, significant research work has been going on since
the early 1980s in many laboratories across the world dealing with low-pressure plasma treatments of
a variety of fibrous materials showing very promising results regarding the improvements in
various functional properties in plasma-treated textiles. A variety of commercial low-pressure plasma
machines, mostly in prototype form, have been offered for batch/in-line processing of textiles for
more than 15 years. In recent years, some companies have also started to offer commercial systems
for atmospheric-pressure plasma processing of textiles...”
Target Audience: Textiles technologists; materials scientists; manfuacturing, process, and
product development engineers; and upper-level students interested in textile surface modification.
