This volume opens with an overview of the field, followed by three sections, focusing on
bioactive coatings, nanotechnology-based coatings, and novel coatings. The bioactive coatings section addresses
antibacterial, antifouling, fouling release, and nanoporous bioactive smart coatings.
The nanotechnology section discusses nanoparticle coatings, organicinorganic nanocomposite
coatings, the effects of inorganic nanoparticles on automotive clearcoat properties, and nanostructured
electro-optically active smart coatings. The final section covers biocatalytic coatings,
superhydrophobic coatings, corrosion protection by conductive polymers, and electrochemical protection of steel
and aluminum coatings.
From the Preface: “Over the years the coatings industry has significantly evolved
technologically, being driven by environmental laws, cost/performance, and perceived customer needs. We will
show how these driving forces have influenced the industry to develop new technologies and that the
need for advanced technologies is currently driving the development of smart coatings...”
Target Audience: Chemical engineers, polymer chemists, formulators, product managers, and
other professionals concerned with smart coatings and their applications.
